Season of Light Celebration

December 14, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

One Tree Wholistic Learning Center Presents Its 8th Annual Season of Light Celebration: A Cross-Cultural Community Celebration

Free event held at the Portland Public Library.

The afternoon of family fun includes storytelling, arts and crafts, music, food, and a presentation of six cultural holidays that each incorporate the symbolism of light: Eid and Ramadan (Muslim), Christmas (Christianity), Kwanzaa (African heritage), Hanukkah (Judaism), Diwali (Hindu), and Winter Solstice. There will be a silent auction and raffle featuring a variety of items from local businesses, which will help raise critical funds for this nonprofit organization.

One Tree promotes social change within institutions and communities through education and grassroots community organizing rooted in peace, pluralism, and partnership. One Tree operates the Roots and Fruits cross-cultural preschool in South Portland, as well as the Community Branches Project, Arts for Social Change Summer Camp, and the Seeds Institute, which promote peace through community engagement and education. Guests at the Season of Light Celebration will learn more about each program and engage with its mission to promote cultural partnerships and work towards social justice. This unique event draws guests from diverse cultural communities and encourages people to share their heritage, stories, traditions, and ideas.
