History In Motion
The Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co. & Museum is dedicated to the preservation and operation of Maine’s two foot gauge railway equipment for the education and enjoyment of the public. Our small museum features exhibits relating to Maine’s narrow gauge railway history, several historic rail cars, activities for children, and a unique gift shop. Visitors may tour the museum only or can purchase a train ticket which includes both a self-guided tour of the museum and a scenic waterfront train ride. All train tickets can be purchased upon arrival. There is plenty of room aboard the train and advanced reservations are not necessary.
The leisurely train ride lasts approximately 35 minutes and travels 1.5 miles (3 miles round trip) along the Eastern Promenade of Casco Bay. Train crew and/or museum docents are available to provide historical information aboard the ride. Both open air cars and enclosed cars are available depending on the season. Trains operates rain or shine. Pets are welcome during our regular-service train rides provided they are on a leash and well-behaved.
Before or after your train ride, be sure to visit the museum to learn more about the organization. Visitors should plan approximately 1.5 hours for a visit. We are open from early May through late October and seasonally for events. Please view our event calendar to learn more about upcoming events at the museum, or the hours and fees page for information on ticket prices and hours of operation.
